Entrepreneur

As an Entrepreneur theAFFORD Business Centre (ABC) would like to welcome you.

Are you an Entrepreneur? - An individual or collective entrepreneurs interested in office accommodation; finance, legal or marketing support; access to finance or ICT; management workshops; enterprise lectures; investment networks; specialist business events; business coaching and mentoring.

Are you a Business? – Businesses (Small/Medium Enterprise – SME) with 2-5 employees and turnover of less than £150,000 and registered for tax purposes; a businesses that is labour-intensive, fast growth and/or depends on local sub-contracting. Our research and analyses indicates that businesses with these characteristics are more likely to produce optimum employment and development outputs and outcomes

If yes the ABC has the service for you....

The overall aim the ABC is to improve the lives of unemployed people and those on low (poverty) wages, by facilitating their employment through SME ventures or self-employment through SME sub-contracts. We are interested in the creation/nurturing of aspirational SMEs which create long-term jobs that provide good livelihoods to employees. This means that through the dignity of work, disadvantaged people are able to support themselves and their families.

We aim to achieve our outcomes:

  1. GROWTH: that entrepreneurs and enterprises that access ABC services shall experience business growth within 18 months of receipt of service, through increase in turnover and/or increase in number of paid employees.
  2. NEW JOBS: that 350 new jobs will be created during the initial 3-years

by cementing and institutionalising SMEs as sustainable mechanisms for wealth- changes in enterprise culture. The ABC seeks to change the way you as an SME is supported, by: delivering an integrated serviced office membership package, which professionalises SMEs, improves their productivity and enables these entities to concentrate on their core business. This increases the chances of growth, resulting in more people being employed by the businesses themselves, with local suppliers/trade-partners being stronger. This virtuous circle creates a positive local 'multiplier-effect'. Core socio-economic changes expected from the project are: actuality of SMEs providing good/sustainable jobs; establishment of new business support frameworks.

The hordes of accidental traders, like the legions of innovative entrepreneurs – need structured technical support, to help them realise the personal and development benefits of enterprise.

Gibril Faal - Chairman, AFFORD, March 2010.
